2013 Tax Changes

After months of starts and stops in negotiations between the White House and Congress, the brakes were applied before the country went over the tax side of the “Fiscal Cliff.” Both the Senate and the House of Representatives rang in the New Year by voting on January 1, 2013, for The American Taxpayer Relief Act (the “Act”) and the President followed by signing the Act into law on January 2, 2013.  Joe Thomson discusses the resulting 2013 tax changes in this letter dated January 8, 2013

Joe Thompson joined Larry Maddox in 1985 to form Maddox, Thomson & Associates. He currently serves as an advisor and consultant to the firm. His focus is on client relationships, income and estate tax planning. Joe works closely with investment planning and management services at the firm. Thompson is originally from Mississippi, graduating cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor in business administration. He became a CPA in 1976 and gained his juris doctor in 1978. Married to the former Anne Sewell, Joe has three sons, and is an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.
